Yesterday, en route to my springtime backcountry meditation spot on a sunny ridgetop, I hiked steeply uphill across mountain slopes covered in deep layers of tall dead grass, matted down by earlier winter snows. There, arising as though out of nowhere from six or eight inches under the dense strawy mat, were several beautiful Spring-Beauty flowers! This discovery reminded me of the sacred manner in which we are meant to treat one another. Often, the only thing we reveal to the world is a rather mundane-looking, tangled mat of neurotic obsessions, untransformed emotions, confused patterns of thought, and herd-mentality opinions. In this situation, each of us is called to wake up and embody the sunlight shaft of divine love for one another. It is in fact this beam that is able to penetrate through surface appearances in order to bring to life the flower of divinity that is ever ready to spring up from the hidden Ground of Being at the slightest touch of warmth. May all of us find the grace to embody this sunlight shaft of divine love, and so help midwife a new and intoxicatingly fragrant spiritual birth from within the deepest core of each another :) Photo: Spring-Beauty, Lory State Park, CO, March 10, 2016 For Spiritual Direction or Workshops, please visit: http://www.resourcesforspiritualgrowth.com/
