"Staggering though it is, what I experience as my longing for God is GOD'S longing for me." Brother David Steindl-Rast Yesterday as I was photographing wildflowers and rock formations at Vedauwoo, Wyoming with a backdrop of rumbling thunder, I heard my first Hermit Thrush song of the season. For me, this call never fails to embody a union of the contrasting qualities of peace and longing and reveals the fact that my longing for God is actually a participation in God's longing for me. It is for this reason that I can REST in my longing rather than trying to find some object to satisfy it.
