In Wilderness Mysticism, a spirituality of the mountains involves a union that runs two ways. On the one hand, we melt and merge into the non-personal dimension of mountains that are billions of years old. This enables us to become more solid, stable, vast, spacious, and cooly detached from the exhausting drama of our emotions. On the other hand, the mountains begin to melt into us and take on some of our personal human qualities, enabling them to speak profound insights to us as though they were a trusted friend or lover.
