"Every creature on earth is offering itself. Pitiable, ingenuous, it is offering itself. I exist, here I am, with this face, this body, this smell. From Napolean to Lenin and Stalin, from the lowest whore in the street to the Mongoloid child, from Greta Garbo to a stray dog, this is truly the sole and perpetual question every living creature is asking every other: Do you find me beautiful?"

Elsa Morante
Italian Novelist
in "Aracoeli"

"Ingenuous" means candid, innocent, sincere.

This quote, and those that follow in succeeding posts, indicate my act of rebellion against the prudishness, joylessness and fundamentalism of our current academic climate, which - like the worst aspects of puritanical religion - attempts to make us cower in shame and denies the humanity of us all.
